XI All-Polish Youth Championship of Hucul ponies

XI All-Polish Youth Championship of Hucul ponies entitled: "On the trail of Hucul Pony" Tarnów – Klikowa, 4 – 5 June 2011.

XI All – Polish Youth Championship of Hucul ponies took place between 4 and 5 June 2011 on the area of former Stallion Herd Klikowa.

Honorary patronage over the whole event was taken by Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Marshall of Małopolska Voivodeship and Tarnów Poviat Staroste.

Regional Association of Horse Breeders in Krakow and Polish Association of Hucul Pony Breeders were the organizers of the feast of Hucul Pony. National Research Institute of Animal Production marked its presence as the coordinator for horses genetic resources protection. The Director of the National Research Institute of Animal Production professor Jędrzej Krupiński, Ph.D. he funded two prizes, as he did during last years: for the best stallion in Hucul type and the best mare in Hucul type. The coordinator for horses genetic resources protection Iwona Tomczyk – Wrona Ph.D. was a member of judicial commission of breeding assessment of horses as a representative of the Institute and on behalf of the Director of the Institute she gave prizes with commemorative diplomas.

The event gathered numerous breeders of Hucul ponies, particularly from the Lesser Poland and Subcarpathian region, but there were also breeders from distant parts e.g. Warmian – Masurian voivodeship. Among the participants there were also the representatives of Polish Association of Horse Breeders in Warsaw headed by the chairman of Polish Association of Horse Breeders Władysław Brejta, Ph. D. and the Director of Office Andrzej Stasiowski M.A. and the representatives of regional associations of horse breeders from Krakow, Rzeszów and Lublin.

Within the framework of the championship there was:

  • a choice of champions and vice-champions of stallions
  • a choice of champions and vice–champions of young mares
  • a choice of champions and vice–champions of three year old mares

Apart from this there were three shows:

  • Use of Hucul ponies in recreation and hippotheraphy
  • Dressage of Hucul mare
  • Demonstration of Hucul path
  • Amateur competition in obstacle jump
  • Amateur competition of agility in driving several horse-drawn vehicles

Drawing competition for the youngest was also organized and generated a lot of interest, also due to numerous prizes in the funding of which the Institute had its modest contribution.

Marvelous weather enabled carrying out all the points of the programme of the event and horses in full sunshine presented themselves extremely splendidly. The animals were prepared for the assessment in a perfect way. It deserved the regard inasmuch as it concerned very young horses: yearlings, two year olds and three year olds. The preparation of young horses requires much more work and commitment than in case of older horses. Breeders of Hucul ponies are among others known for large accuracy in preparing animals and care for the appearance of their pets on the events of this kind. Very well prepared horses allowed five persons judicial commission to carry out the pricing in an efficient way, which for each horse consisted of assessment for attire, assessment of walk and assessment of trot within a large circle.

The judicial commission composed of:

  • Chairman – Marek Gibała
  • I member – Iwona Tomczyk – Wrona
  • II member – Paulina Peckiel
  • III member – Teresa Pracuch
  • IV member – Andrzej Kosior

made the assessment of 43 horses including: 8 stallions and 35 mares participating in the assessment. From the horses it selected:
