Visit by the School Complex Centre of Agricultural Education

Visit by the School Complex Centre of Agricultural Education at the National Research Institute of Animal Production

As part of the cooperation agreement between the School Complex Centre of Agricultural Education (SCCAE) and the National Research Institute of Animal Production concluded in June 2011, on 18th November 2011 the Institute hosted a group of youth with their supervisors and management of the School Complex Centre of Agricultural Education named after Father Jan Dzierżoń, Ph.D. in Bogdańczowice.

Professor Eugeniusz Herbut, Ph.D. officially welcomed the visitors who came to Balice. He briefly presented the history and activity of the National Research Institute of Animal Production.

The first item on the agenda was a visit at the department of the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Aleksandrowice, where the students became acquainted with the protection programme for native breeds and heard lectures (accompanied by the presentation of animals) given by:

  • Paweł Bielański, Ph. D. on the breeding of fur-bearing animals
  • Jolanta Calik on hen breeding
  • Jacek Sikora, Ph.D. on sheep breeding and the restoration of species

Next, the guests visited the laboratory of the Department of Animal Reproduction Biotechnology, where Barbara Szczęśniak-Fabiańczyk, Ph.D. Eng. discussed and presented the methods of laboratory work and the tasks of scientists working in the laboratory. The show of thawing and microscope observation of bull semen generated a lot of interest from the visitors.

The last part was a visit to the Experimental Station of the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Rudawa/Kobylany, where director Andrzej Jurkiewicz presented and discussed modern solutions applied in cow breeding (milking system, modern workplace of animal breeding specialist – computer supervision of animals).

At the end of the meeting, teaching and information materials prepared by the National Research Institute of Animal Production were handed over to the management of the SCCAE.
