6th Greenleg Partridge Festival – Proszowice 2016

The Małopolska Festival of Polish Greenleg Partridge Hens in Proszowice is a cyclical event organized by the Proszowice Association of Pedigree Pigeons and Small Livestock Breeders. This year the event was held already for the sixth time. The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Krzysztof Jurgiel, Małopolska Voivode Józef Gawron, Vice-Marshal of the Małopolskie Voivodeship Wojciech Kozak and also the Director of the National Research Institute of Animal Production Prof. Eugeniusz Herbut, Ph.D. took the patronage over the festival.

During all Sunday, the 25th of September a large number of visitors could see various breeds of pigeons, hens, ducks, geese and rabbits. The National Research Institute of Animal Production as the partner of the Association presented the types of native breeds of animals: Yellowleg Partridge, Rhode Island Red and Rhode Island White hens, Popielno White rabbits and Wrzosówka sheep. Presentations and stage performances complemented the animal exhibition. Saying mass on the exhibition square was an organizational variety of this year’s festival.

The choice of Greenleg prince and princess became a tradition of the festival. This year the following received the titles: Jan Pajka – the President of  the Polish Association of Pedigree Pigeons and Small Livestock and Danuta Król – the owner of an educational farm.

In conclusion to the exhibition, cups and certificates of appreciation were handed to the best breeders, including those for Jacek Tworek, Ireneusz Kopeć and Jerzy Drożdż from the National Research Institute of Animal Production for the active participation in the restoration of Polish Greenleg Partridge.

In turn, the organizers represented by the Proszowice Commune and City Mayor Grzegorz Cichy appreciated the participation of the National Research Institute of Animal Production in the festival, honouring the Institute with a memorial cup.

At the stall organized by the Department of Research Commercialization and Practice Cooperation one could receive the most recent publications of the Institute including Wiadomości Zootechniczne, which generate a lot of popularity.
