Symposium: The realization of ex situ biodiversity conservation programmes - the National Bank of Biological Materials

On 25 October 2016 a symposium on: “The realization of ex situ biodiversity conservation programmes as part of the activity of the National Research Institute of Animal Production – the National Bank of Biological Materials” was held in Balice. All the employees of the National Research Institute of Animal Production were invited to the symposium. The aim of the event was to present the activities realized by the Department of Animal Genetic Resources Conservation of the National Research Institute of Animal Production in the National Bank of Biological Materials.

Deputy Director Józef Śliwa, M.Sc. began the meeting by presenting briefly the activities of the Management of the National Research Institute of Animal Production associated with establishment of the National Bank of Biological Materials. Welcoming the participants at the same time he invited them to begin the sessions. The first speech concerned the origin of creating and a current state of the National Bank of Biological Materials of the National Research Institute of Animal Production which was presented by Eng. Jacek Sikora, Ph.D.

In turn, Ewelina Wilkosz, M.Sc. presented synthetic information on the banks of biological materials in Europe and the world. Apart from the detailed information conveyed on the activity of European units one could become acquainted with such distant banks like those situated in Australia or Mexico.
