11th National Exhibition of Polish Red Cattle – Szczyrzyc

Between 10 and 11 June 2017, the 11th National Exhibition of Polish Red Cattle and the accompanying events: Regional Sheep Exhibition and Pedigree Rabbits Exhibition were held in Szczyrzyc.

The National Association of Polish Red Cattle Breeders and Jodłownik Commune were the organizers of the event. The National Research Institute of Animal Production was one of the co-organizers.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Marshal of Małopolskie Voivodeship, and the Agricultural Market Agency took the honorary patronage over the event.

This year’s exhibition had an international character due to special guests – the participants of the Conference of the European Red Cattle Breeders Association. Ms Ewa Lech, the Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development was the guest of the Conference and Szczyrzyc exhibition.

The exhibition gathered the best breeders of Polish Red Cattle, who presented about 70 animals in total.

The panel of judges, headed by Prof. Jan Trela, Ph.D. did the evaluation and granted the following titles and awards in eight categories:

  1. Heifers aged 12-16 months – champion: Maja heifer (breeder Stefan Lach from Jodłownik);
  2. Heifers aged 17-20 months – champion: Sarna heifer (breeder Paweł Gał from Bańska Niżna);
  3. First-lactation cows in breed improvement programme – champion: Bela cow (breeder Jan Solarczyk from Wróblówka);
  4. First-lactation cows in genetic resources conservation programme – champion: Wira cow (breeder Damian Koza from Stróże);
  5. Second- and fifth-lactation cows in breed improvement programme – champion: Barwa cow (breeder Jan Solarczyk from Wróblówka);
  6. Second- and third-lactation cows in genetic resources conservation programme – champion: Mela cow (breeder Stefan Lach from Jodłownik);
  7. Fourth- and fifth-lactation cows in genetic resources conservation programme – champion: Sabrina cow (breeder Grażyna Tomaszewska from Mochnaczka Niżna);
  8. Sixth- and higher-lactation cows – champion: Pola cow (breeder Krzysztof Bartoszek from Maruszyna).

Barwa cow from breeder Jan Solarczyk from Wróblówka was chosen as superchampion of the exhibition in breed improvement programme.

Łaciata cow belonging to the Homestead of the Cistercian Abbey from Szczyrzyc was chosen as superchampion of the exhibition in genetic resources conservation programme.

Sabrina cow, owned by Ms Grażyna Tomaszewska gained the title of the most splendid cow of the exhibition and the cup of the National Research Institute of Animal Production.

As every year, the attractions were completed by the presentations of agricultural machines, equine rides and tombola.
