Polish-Chinese scientific seminar on the “Current Research Directions in Animal Production”

On 30 August 2017, the Polish-Chinese scientific seminar entitled “Current Research Directions in Animal Production” was held in the National Research Institute of Animal Production. The meeting of the group of guests from Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute  (China) and a specialist in epizootiology from the National Veterinary Research Institute in Puławy, Mr. Zygmunt Pejsak with a group of the scientists from the National Research Institute of Animal Production took place in the Radziwiłł Palace in Balice.

The head of the Department of Research Commercialization and Practice Cooperation, Piotr Mikosz, M.A. welcomed the guests and chaired the meeting. Prof. Robert Eckert, Ph.D. representing the Department of Genetics and Animal Breeding presented the history of the Institute and research programmes conducted there. Subsequently, Asst. Prof. Zhije Liu outlined the research conducted in Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute, paying particular attention to the studies on vaccines and animal diseases, presenting research teams, scientific departments and the international cooperation. Next, Asst. Prof. Jinzhang Zhou spoke about the identification and characterization of Chlamydia abortion isolates occurring among others in yak population in Qinghai, indicating the disease symptoms, endangered species, laboratory diagnostics and the achievements in disease control. Jolanta Opiela, Ph.D. from the Department of Animal Reproduction Biotechnology took the floor from the part of the Institute, presenting research in the field of biotechnology and animal reproduction, paying attention to the research programme of the Department, laboratories, achievements and its international cooperation. Prof. Eckert, Ph.D. delivered the last paper on the improvement of the breeding value and utility of domestic pigs in the context of obtaining high quality pork, mentioning among others breed evaluation, pig reproductive performance, their reproductive traits and the BLUP method used in order to determine genetic value. The meeting was concluded with the discussion during which views were exchanged and hope for fruitful cooperation was expressed. The seminar was organized by the Department of Research Commercialization and Practice Cooperation.
