22nd International Agricultural Exhibition AGROPROMOTION 2012

Between 8 and 9 September 2012, the “22nd International Exhibition AGROPROMOTION 2012” was held in Nawojowa under the honorary patronage of the Marshal of the Małopolskie Voivodeship, Marek Sowa and the Małopolska Voivode, Jerzy Miller.

The Małopolska Agricultural Advisory Centre in Karniowice was the organizer of this event.

This agricultural fair and exhibition event, the largest in the Małopolska region, attracted nearly 400 exhibitors and several dozen thousand visitors.

21st National Agricultural Exhibition – Jasnogora Harvest Festival

The 21st National Agricultural Exhibition – Jasna Góra Harvest Festival and the 13th Days of European Folk Culture were held between 1 and 2 September 2012 in Częstochowa.

As part of the exhibition “Science in Agriculture”, during which the institutes operating in the agricultural sector presented themselves, the National Research Institute of Animal Production also presented its offer. Tadeusz Nalewajk, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Marek Cieśliński, Deputy Director of the Department for Science, Advisory Services and Agricultural Education honoured the stall of the Institute with their presence.

Life Science Open Space 2012 (LSOS 2012)

Life Science Open Space 2012 is an annual event dedicated to innovations in biotechnology, medicine, pharmacy, nutrition and other fields realated to life sciences. It will be held on 17th October 2012 in Hotel Stary in Krakow, Poland.

The main objective of the conference is to promote and support the collaboration between science and business through presentations of ideas, needs, technologies, services and opportunities for cooperation and direct contacts of persons representing various interests. The "Open space" formula facilitates the discussion and interaction between the participants.

12th Farewell to Holidays in Rudawka Rymanowska

The “12th Farewell to Holidays in Rudawka Rymanowska” was held between 24 and 26 August 2012, within the framework of which the 7th National Exhibition of Simmental Cattle, the Regional Championships of Hucul Horses and the National Exhibition of Native Breeds were organized.

The “12th Farewell to Holidays in Rudawka Rymanowska” was organized by the National Research Institute of Animal Production, the Institute’s Experimental Station in Odrzechowa, the District Association of Horse Breeders in Rzeszów, and the Polish Association of Simmental Cattle located in Odrzechowa.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Subcarpathian Voivode and the Marshal of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship assumed the honorary patronage over the Exhibition.

Professor Jędrzej Krupiński, Ph. D., the Director of National Research Institute of Animal Production, Władysław Brejta, D. Sc. Eng., the President of Experimental Station of the National Research Institute of Animal Production Odrzechowa Ltd. and Edgar Benes, the President of Polish Association of Simmental Cattle Breeders officially opened the exhibition. Then, the invited guests took the floor among whom there was Chief Veterinary Surgeon Janusz Związek, who read the letter of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Stanisław Kalemba. At the end of the exhibition opening, Professor Jędrzej Krupiński, Ph.D., the Director of the National Research Institute of Animal Production invited everyone to visit the exhibitions and participate in the other accompanying events.

Basic Field Bravery Test of Sztumski Mares and Stallions, 29 July 2012

On the last Sunday of July (29 July), the Basic Field Bravery Test of Sztumski Mares and Stallions was held for the fourth time in the Horse Stud Narusa near Frombork in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodeship.

Young mares, which in the future will be able to participate in genetic resources conservation programme for cold-blooded horses, coordinated by the National Research Institute of Animal Production, took part in the draught horse test. It is worth underlining that this test is voluntary for cold-blooded mares and the Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodeship is one of the few where it has been organized for many years. The Field Test for cold-blooded horses consisted in covering a several hundred metre route, determined in the field at a walk or a trot. This is a draught horse test and it aims at proving the usefulness of a mare to working use. Although the number of horses currently used in agriculture is small, it is important to check their character, temperament and their willingness to cooperate with humans.

A Competition within the framework of Research Infrastructure Support Program Has Been Concluded

The competition within the framework of the Research Infrastructure Support Program within the scope of the Polish Science and Technology Fund, announced by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education was concluded on 27 July 2012. The team of Animal Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics of the National Research Institute of Animal Production, under the guidance of Prof. Barbara Rejduch, PhD, DSc received the highest assessment in the field of agricultural sciences and thus acquired funds for the development of research infrastructure.

 

A visit of Chinese delegation to Balice and Pawłowice

Between 11 and 12 July 2012 the National Research Institute of Animal Production hosted a delegation of employees from the Institute of Animal Breeding in Jiangsu (China), who deal with the issues associated with breeding of farm animals, especially pigs.

In the ceiling room of the Radziwiłł Palace in Balice there was a meeting with the employees of the National Research Institute of Animal Production. Prof. Eugeniusz Herbut welcomed the guests and presented the Institute’s history and activities. Grzegorz Żak, D.Sc. Eng. delivered a paper concerning the structure and main principles of pig breeding conducted in Poland and the associated research. Then, the guests visited the Independent Genomics Laboratory and the building in which experimental animals are kept.
