Sylwester Świątkiewicz, Ph.D. nominated as a professor

We have the pleasure to inform you that on 5 December 2011, the President of Poland Bronisław Komorowski conferred the title of Professor of Agricultural Sciences on Sylwester Świątkiewicz Ph.D. from the National Research Institute of Animal Production.

 

Polish Academy of Sciences awards Professor Zdzisław Smorąg

Division Two: Biological and Agricultural Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences honoured Professor Zdzisław Smorąg with a distinction for the series of research papers on "Lipids in pig oocytes and embryos – new methods for identification and content regulation, and the implications for biotechnology".

Visit by the School Complex Centre of Agricultural Education at the National Research Institute of Animal Production

As part of the cooperation agreement between the School Complex Centre of Agricultural Education (SCCAE) and the National Research Institute of Animal Production concluded in June 2011, on 18th November 2011 the Institute hosted a group of youth with their supervisors and management of the School Complex Centre of Agricultural Education named after Father Jan Dzierżoń, Ph.D. in Bogdańczowice.

Professor Eugeniusz Herbut, Ph.D. officially welcomed the visitors who came to Balice. He briefly presented the history and activity of the National Research Institute of Animal Production.

National strategy for sustainable use and conservation of farm animal genetic resources

On 22 November 2011 in Balice, the National Research Institute of Animal Production organized a conference entitled:

National strategy for sustainable use and conservation of farm animal genetic resources and the plan of action for these resources

under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Marek Sawicki, Ph.D.

The Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Andrzej Butra, Ph.D. opened the conference.

This was followed by a ceremony presenting state decorations for the employees of the National Research Institute of Animal Production. The Undersecretary of State, Andrzej Butra, Ph.D. and the Deputy Voivode of Małopolska, Andrzej Haręźlak awarded medals.

A report from the conference “Improving the profitability of fattener production”, Pawłowice, 8th November 2011

The conference entitled “Improving the profitability of fattener production” was organized at the Experimental Station in Pawłowice on 8th November. About 115 people participated in the conference, including employees of universities and research institutes, managers of agricultural enterprises and pig farms, pig breeders and producers, veterinarians, and employees of feed companies. Ireneusz Dymarski, Ph.D. Eng., the Director of Experimental Station Pawłowice opened the conference and welcomed the visitors. Five papers were presented during the lecture part.

The National Research Institute of Animal Production is pleased to inform you that on 22 November 2011 in Balice, it organizes a Conference on the compilation of the

National strategy for sustainable use and conservation of farm animal genetic resources and the plan of action for these resources

The Global Plan of Action for Animal Genetic Resources, adopted during the International Conference in Interlaken (1 – 7 September 2007) obliges all member countries of FAO, including Poland, to implement it. The National Strategy is the most important tool to implement the Global Plan of Action. The strategy should concern sustainable use of all genetic resources of farm animals in Poland and not only the native breeds of animals.

Conference in Pawłowice on "Improving the profitability of fattener production"

On 8th November 2011, the Experimental Station of the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Pawłowice is organizing a conference for pig breeders and producers, entitled:

"Improving the profitability of fattener production"

It will be a perfect occasion to become acquainted with innovations in pig breeding and husbandry and with the offer of companies that deliver products and services for breeders.

European Biodiversity Conference

It is our pleasure to inform you that the European Landowners’ Organization (ELO) and Véronique Mathieu, MEP will be holding the 4th yearly European Biodiversity Conference entitled:

The 2020 Biodiversity strategy: a public-private partnership for sustainable resource use” on the 1st of December 2011, Brussels, the European Parliament from 2.00 to 6.00 pm

The conference will present the indispensable support and participation of various land users and land managers as well as agro businesses and industries in the protection of biodiversity. In the framework of the Biodiversity Strategy, we choose to focus our attention on public-private partnership for a sustainable resource use. We will also be discussing the CAP reform as the legislature proposal from the EC enters the next phase of negotiations among the EP and the Council. We will discuss the implications of the proposed CAP reform for biodiversity in light of the new European biodiversity strategy.

8th Agricultural Festival of Science, Brwinów - Warsaw

Between 18th and 19th October 2011, the 8th Agricultural Festival of Science was held in Brwinów and Warsaw under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Minister of Science and Higher Education.

The festival was organized by the Agricultural Advisory Centre in Brwinów and the Michał Oczapowski Central Agricultural Library in Warsaw, in the form of two, thematically distinct, conferences. The central theme of the first one was agricultural water resources management and Tadeusz Nalewajk, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, who was present at the meeting underlined the significance of water balance for agriculture and rural areas. The subject matter of the second conference was Polish culinary heritage. It took place in the Central Agricultural Library in Warsaw.

During the Festival, the National Research Institute of Animal Production presented its offer concerning publications and the dissemination and implementation of research results.
