Conference in Pawłowice on "Improving the profitability of fattener production"

On 8th November 2011, the Experimental Station of the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Pawłowice is organizing a conference for pig breeders and producers, entitled:

"Improving the profitability of fattener production"

It will be a perfect occasion to become acquainted with innovations in pig breeding and husbandry and with the offer of companies that deliver products and services for breeders.

European Biodiversity Conference

It is our pleasure to inform you that the European Landowners’ Organization (ELO) and Véronique Mathieu, MEP will be holding the 4th yearly European Biodiversity Conference entitled:

The 2020 Biodiversity strategy: a public-private partnership for sustainable resource use” on the 1st of December 2011, Brussels, the European Parliament from 2.00 to 6.00 pm

The conference will present the indispensable support and participation of various land users and land managers as well as agro businesses and industries in the protection of biodiversity. In the framework of the Biodiversity Strategy, we choose to focus our attention on public-private partnership for a sustainable resource use. We will also be discussing the CAP reform as the legislature proposal from the EC enters the next phase of negotiations among the EP and the Council. We will discuss the implications of the proposed CAP reform for biodiversity in light of the new European biodiversity strategy.

8th Agricultural Festival of Science, Brwinów - Warsaw

Between 18th and 19th October 2011, the 8th Agricultural Festival of Science was held in Brwinów and Warsaw under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Minister of Science and Higher Education.

The festival was organized by the Agricultural Advisory Centre in Brwinów and the Michał Oczapowski Central Agricultural Library in Warsaw, in the form of two, thematically distinct, conferences. The central theme of the first one was agricultural water resources management and Tadeusz Nalewajk, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, who was present at the meeting underlined the significance of water balance for agriculture and rural areas. The subject matter of the second conference was Polish culinary heritage. It took place in the Central Agricultural Library in Warsaw.

During the Festival, the National Research Institute of Animal Production presented its offer concerning publications and the dissemination and implementation of research results.

8th Global Conference on the Conservation of Animal Genetic Resources – Tekirdag, Turkey, 4 – 8 October 2011

Between 4th and 8th October 2011, the 8th Global Conference on the Conservation of Animal Genetic Resources entitled “Sustainable Conservation of Livestock Breeds Diversity for the Future: Impact of Globalisation of Animal Breeding and the Loss of Farm Animal Genetic diversity – A conflict?” was held in Tekirdag (Turkey).

Visit of Chinese delegation in the National Research Institute of Animal Production

On 22 October 2011 in the Palace in Balice there was a meeting of Chinese delegation from Jiangsu province with the representatives of the National Research Institute of Animal Production.

On behalf of the Director of the Institute, prof. Jędrzej Krupiński, Ph.D., associate professor of the National Research Institute of Animal Production, Robert Eckert Ph.D. welcomed all the guests. It was followed with his presentation of the state-of the-art achievements of the Institute. Then, he presented the tasks of the National Research Institute of Animal Production in the field of Multiannual Programme entitled: "Protection and management of national genetic resources of farm animals in the conditions of sustainable use" predicted for the years 2011 – 2015, the realization and coordination of which The Council of Ministers entrusted to the National Research Institute of Animal Production. Subsequently, Robert Eckert, Ph.D. acquainted the guests with the issue of animal production in Poland and the directions of foreign trade. In the next part of the meeting, Grzegorz Żak, Ph.D. Engineer had the presentation concerning the breeding of pigs in Poland taking into consideration its history and present tasks. In the end, Tomasz Ząbek, Ph.D. acquainted the guests with work realized in the Independent Genomics Laboratory. After having presented the information, the delegates from China had the chance to see the laboratory. They were particularly interested in the breeding of boars of line 990 and suggested the purchase of genetic material of these animals. The meeting finished with a short conclusion, during which the representatives from China expressed their hope to continue cooperation of their institution with the National Research Institute of Animal Production in the field of trade with agricultural produce.

 

Second Congress of Agricultural Sciences, 5 October 2011

The Second Congress of Agricultural Sciences “Science for Practice. National strategic research programmes for the agri-food sector and rural areas” was held on 5 October 2011 in the Central Agricultural Library in Warsaw.

The Congress was organized on the initiative of Marek Sawicki Ph.D. by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and honorary patronage over the event was assumed by Bronisław Komorowski, the President of the Republic of Poland.

The discussion covered a wide range of issues:

  • Climate threats to agriculture and rural development
  • Directions for the development of agricultural sciences and their medium- and long-term impact on agricultural policy in Poland
  • Issues related to science for bio-economy and innovative model of development of the agri-food sector and rural areas
  • Economic and social determinants of production, food safety and quality standards in conditions of environmental change
  • Threats to biodiversity in agricultural landscape
  • Expected solutions of knowledge transfer for the agri-food sector and rural areas

XIII International Agricultural Exhibition Agro Show 2011

XIII International Agricultural Exhibition Agro Show 2011, Bednary, 23 – 26 September 2011

Between 23 and 26 September 2011 in Bednary close to Poznań the “XIII International Agricultural Exhibition Agro Show 2011” took place, which was organized by the Polish Chamber of Agricultural Machinery ad Equipment. Honorary patronage over the exhibition was assumed by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, whereas Program 1 of Polish Television provided media sponsorship.

Organized since 1999, the exhibition is the biggest international agricultural event in Poland and one of the largest in Europe. Premieres of new agricultural machinery and equipment, which take place during the exhibition, are evidence of its high importance. AGRO SHOW is comprehensive in scope – one may present and admire not only machinery and equipment but also fertilizers, seeds, elements of furnishings of livestock buildings and many other means of agricultural production.

172nd session of the Scientific Council of the National Research Institute of Animal Production

On 28 September 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Palace in Balice there was the 172nd session of the Scientific Council of the National Research Institute of Animal Production. This was the first meeting of the Scientific Council for the 2011-2015 term of office

During the 172nd session of the Scientific Council of the National Research Institute of Animal Production nominations were awarded to newly elected members of the Council:

  • The Director of the Department of Food Safety and Veterinary Matters of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Wojciech Wojtyra M.Sc. Eng. awarded the nomination to the members of the Scientific Council appointed by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development
  • The Director of the National Research Institute of Animal Production Prof. Jędrzej Krupiński, Ph.D. awarded nominations to the members of the Scientific Council chosen in the elections

IX Picnic with Polish Konik

IX Picnic with Polish Konik, Jasło – Trzcinica, 24-25 September 2011

The IX Picnic with Polish Konik horses took place between 24 and 25 September 2011, during beautiful sunny weather in the area of the Agricultural School Complex in Trzcinica close to Jasło.

Honorary patronage over the whole event was assumed by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Marshal of the Podkarpackie voivodeship, the Jasło District Starosta, the Mayor of Jasło and the Director of the Podkarpackie Branch of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture.

Among the organizers of the feast of Polish Konik horses were the Association of the Polish Konik Horse Breeders and Lovers, the District Association of Horse Breeders in Rzeszów, and the County Office of Jasło. Contributions to the organization of this event were also made by the Marshal Office of the Podkarpackie voivodeship, the City Office in Jasło, the Poviat Starosty in Jasło, the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture, the Podkarpackie Agricultural Advisory Centre in Boguchwała – the Advisors’ Group in Jasło, and  the National Research Institute of Animal Production.

Meeting devoted to the cultivation of maize for silage and the breeding of dairy cattle – Kobylany

On 21 September 2011 at the Dairy Cattle Farm in Kobylany, which belongs to the Experimental Station of the National Research Institute of Animal Production Rudawa Ltd., there was a meeting devoted to the cultivation of maize for silage and the breeding of dairy cattle.

During the seminar, presentations were made of the many varieties of silage maize, agricultural machinery used in the operation of farms, and the solutions applied during the modernization of the Cattle Farm:
